Worlds 2021 is Reported to Take Place in Reykjavík, Iceland
Dot Esports have learned that RIOT Games plan to organize 2021 World Championship in Iceland’s capital, Reykjavík. The event is supposed to be held at Laugardalshöll Indoor Sporting Arena, the same venue that earlier this year hosted Mid-Season Invitational and VALORANT Masters. The information has not been confirmed by RIOT Games, who plan to share their plans later this week.
It is reported that the championship will be held without live audience from October 5th to November 6th. The event will be split into five stages – Play-In (October 5th – 9th), Group Stage (October 11th – 18th), Quarterfinals (October 22nd – 25th), Semifinals (October 30th – 31st), and Grand Finals (November 6th). Assuming that VCS will not be represented at the event, the full line-up consists of the following 22 teams:
- Group Stage Teams: Edward Gaming, FunPlus Phoenix, Royal Never Give Up, DAMWON Gaming, Gen.G, T1, MAD Lions, Fnatic, 100 Thieves, Team Liquid, PSG Talon
- Play-In Teams: Beyond Gaming, Cloud9, DetonatioN FocusMe, Galatasaray Esports, Hanwha Life Esports, Infinity, LNG Esports, PEACE, RED Canids, Rogue, Unicorns of Love
Earlier RIOT Games revealed that 2021 Worlds will not be played in China as had been planned initially. Due to international travel restrictions amidst the worldwide increase in COVID-19 cases, the country became inaccessible to teams from multiple regions.
